My Mailroom Man has been out all week so to save the company temp employee dollars, I decided to cover his job duties for four short 8 hour days. I have done this quite a bit in the past and not really been too frazled or stressed. This week is different. I feel like I am running around all over the office to take care of random things like moving boxes of dishes, ordering paper, distributing the mail, etc. I didn't realize how much I rely on Mailroom Man to do the menial tasks that I so graciously volunteered to handle. The other problem is that I have been coming in over an hour early to cover reception while getting less sleep than usual because of my addiction to the US Open. I will be thrilled, ecstatic, grateful and appreciative when I give the reins of the mailroom and errands back to him on Monday. This weekend I feel like I need to sleep for 20 hours to recover my nerves of steel and smiling countenance because if one more person asks me to do something random, I might just tell them "hell no."
